Dawson’s Liquor Store, the largest liquor store in Severna Park, was
started on May27, 1944 when Cliff Dawson purchased the stock and
fixtures of the Boone Drug Company. The current site of Dawson’s, on
the corner of McKinsey Road and B&A Boulevard, was selected in 1950.
Mr. Dawson purchased a piece of property formerly used as a gas
station and barbershop, and erected a building to house the Severna
Park Post Office which was formerly located in the railroad station.
On November 2, 1952 Cliff Dawson moved his store, Dawson’s Country
Store, from the Codd Building to the new site at 589 B&A Boulevard.
The property is still in the possession of the Dawson family as Gene
Routt, a son-in-law, is the current owner. Mr. Routt has divided the
building into four separate business locations, Dawson’s Liquor
Store, Adam’s Ribs, Domino’s Pizza and Severna Park Flowers.
Dawson’s Liquor Store is the cornerstone of Severna Park commercial
history.
Dawson’s Liquors was purchased from the Dawson Family by Ed Polk and
several investors in November 1985. Ed has managed the store for the
past 22 years. Over the years, many changes have occurred at
Dawson’s. In order to increase our selection of wine, beer and
liquor, we have eliminated the grocery store, check cashing
services, and penny candy store. Due to these changes, Dawson’s has
become Severna Park’s premier purveyor of wines, beers and liquors
from around the world.
Our wine department carries thousands of wines from over 20
countries. Most questions can be answered by the knowledgeable Bruce
Barrett. Bruce has been sharing his love of wine with Dawson’s
customers since 1999.
Under the direction of our beer managers, Nick and Danny Cipriano,
we are constantly adding new beer to our inventory. The legendary
beer selection at Dawson’s includes over 550 different beers from
over 30 countries. The beer department continues to grow with the
steady availability of new beers from both the United States and
breweries worldwide.
Along with our beer and wine selections, Dawson’s has an extensive
liquor selection. Dawson’s stocks over 50 tequilas including Patron
Platinum, and Don Julio Real. The 4,000 square ft. store also boasts
over 45 single malt scotches and hundreds of vodkas from all over
the world. Our selection of fine rums, cognacs, and cordials rounds
off the ever growing liquor department.
Outside of the retail environment, Dawson’s has been an active
supporter of various community and educational activities. Dawson’s
is the sponsor of the Annapolis Striders Father’s Day 10k run in
Severna Park each year. In addition Dawson’s sponsors bi-monthly
wine dinners at local restaurants to enhance the enjoyment of fine
wine for the customer. |
